Set a Reading Purpose
Read along with Miracle and Nano as they follow Frankie’s adventure to make the perfect lily pad. Students will use listening comprehension and prediction skills.
Letter Fluency
Students help Nano identify letter names as they drive around the bumper car track. In this game, Nano needs to find both forms of Cc, Nn, Bb, and Ii.
Non-fiction Read Aloud
Green sea turtles are amazing animals. Students explore concepts of print, learn new science vocabulary words and discover fascinating facts about the habitat and diet of a green sea turtle.
Letter Sound Correspondence
Match the sound to its letter name by sliding the tile down the correct lane! Students use digital manipulatives in this teaching activity.
Segmenting and Blending
The Sound Hound says a CVC word and displays its picture. Students listen to the sound of three Blurts (digital manipulatives) to identify the initial consonant sound in each word.
Read Aloud with Nano
Students listen as Nano reads the highlighted words on each page of the book Min and Pop. Then they read aloud with Nano by moving the sliding arrow to highlight each word and say the word with Nano.
Short and Long Vowels
Students listen to the different sounds each Blurt makes to form a word. Using their auditory discrimination skills, they identify the vowel sound.
Text Evidence
Read along with Miracle as she discovers the four stages of the butterfly’s life cycle. This book reinforces listening skills, comprehension and introduces new science vocabulary.
Letter Combinations
Nano needs help reading words with letter combinations that make new sounds. Students practice phonemic awareness and phonics skills as they sort words with the new letter combinations “ar” and “or”.
Phonemic Awareness
The Sound It Out Cheer helps Nano read words ending with Yy. Students listen to the two sounds of Yy, then drag word ending in Yy to the right sound box.
Prefixes
Pick a word part from the hat to change the meaning of the word. The purpose of this game is to understand the meaning of prefixes and how they can change a word’s meaning.
Make Inferences
Miracle shares a facinating books about the characteristic of the Rainforest. Students learn new science vocabulary words, strengthen their comprehension skills and discover amazing facts about the rainforest.
Super Syllable Strategies
Students learn the syllable strategy to read long, tricky words. In the activity that follows, they apply the strategy to break apart words, like kerfuffle, to make them easier to read.
Sequencing
This sequencing game prompts students tap and drag the syllables to the correct order to make a spoken word. Students focus on the process for working through multisyllabic words.
Elements of Fiction
A boy in ancient China discovers that the villagers’ gifts intended for a mythical monster are actually benefiting the local wildlife. Students will identify plot, characters, and setting.
